I have long time friends in Drumcondra and the seldom time I visit them we generally go for a pint. On my last visit we went to the Cat and Cage just to have a chat in a quiet place. I was totally disappointed with the place, it was quiet alright but no atmosphere whatsoever. The place has a dreary look about it and I could'nt wait to get out of there. Its hard to understand that a pub in such a central location is not more modern. It needs a face lift badly.... Read more...

i'm going to review the cat and cage as a food outlet as i have never been there for a night out. The food was simply okay, nothing was bad or uncooked but at the same time it wasn't fantastic. The service was its one redeeming factor in that it had a friendly and likeable barman who genuinely seemed to want to help. I'd never rave about this place it serves mediocre food in a mediocre setting, there are definitely better places to eat.... Read more...

The Cat and Cage is one of those landmark pubs that used to be really popular but for whatever reason hasn't really managed to attract a new crowd. Should be a goldmine because of its location but its dead most of the time. Its ok if you want to catch a match with a few mates but for food or a goodnight out your better off heading to the Ivy House which is just a few yards up the road or Fagans.... Read more...

My friends and I stepped in here the other night because 1. it is close to where we live 2. we needed a new atmosphere. We came to realize that this is a place that we don't belong. It is a true mans pub to the core. From the way the place is decorated to the pub food. Of course we stayed and had a drink, but as soon as we could get out of there we did. It is such a shame because being so close to where the college kids are you would think that you would cater to all types of people with your... Read more...

The Cat and Cage or the 'Cat' as it is sometimes known is opposite St Patricks college so it attracts a lot of college students, particuarly when for sporting events and for rag week etc. Id personally associate it with being a mans pub, its not somewhere id go with the girls for a night out. There are better places. They do food during the day, which i would describe as being average, maybe even less than average. They do chips, soup and that kind of thing. Ive give it 2.5 /5 ... not a great pub.

This is a pub that is in my area but that i would never really go into. The whole atmosphere is a bit dull and dreary and could raelly use a good overhaul. I have looked at the food menue whilst walking by a few times and it is quite pricey considering the surroundings and also the fact that there are several really clean good places with good food to eat very close by. i think in comparision to the other pubs in the area this one would be the worst overall. I wouldnt ever even think of... Read more...

Situated in the heart of Drumcondra - the Cat and Cage is a familiar haunt for locals and students from the nearby St Pats College and DCU. The atmosphere was a lot better a few years ago - the place seems to have gone downhill a bit. Would agree with Cathal that it is a good spot to watch a game in comfort. Overall however there are a number of far better pubs in the area.... Read more...

You're in Drumcondra and there's a Dublin match on, you want to have a pint while watching it but don't want to be crushed to death in Quinns, what are you to do? Well, your best bet would be to head to The Cat and Cage, which is a little bit further up Drumcondra and as such doesn't tend to be as packed, there's almost always room upstairs. I've had food in The Cat and Cage before: not bad but not great either, very standard pub grub. Still and all, the pints are good, they sell Beamish... Read more...
