I have never reviewed anything before no matter how good or bad but I felt I had to comment on my experience in cumh. I recently Had my second baby there ( 2 weeks ago) I also had my first baby there just over a year ago. While I thought my first experience was fantastic, my second was even better. Every person I met from my obgyn ( pro Louise Lenny ) and all her staff ( midwife Dorothy and rose the receptionist ) was lovely, kind, caring and made it very personal, to the staff on the wards (... This is a bit of a madhouse but the staff are just fantastic. Anyone I met in here - midwives, student nurses, physiotherapist etc - all were so helpful. Sometimes during the bedridden phase, you could be waiting a little while after ringing the bell for assistance but that wasn't the staff's fault as there really aren't enough of them. And once they were there, you had their undivided attention. This hospital is only a few years old and quite modern. All the rooms I saw were either single... Read more...

I've had two elective sections at this hospital and can't praise it enough. Every member of staff I met was very nice and helpful, even thought they were often very busy and rushed off thier feet. The outpatients clinics are very busy and you can wait a while to be seen but when you are seen you are treated as an individual and not a number. The room I stayed in was nice and clean, and very quiet. There is a lovely shop and coffee shop downstairs. Parking was great, as I was staying 5 days got... Read more...

I had our first child at CUMH (public) when they first opened (2007), and honestly wasn't impressed. I thought the midwives were rude, especially to a few of the foreign nationals who were in the ward with me. Now 3 years later, I just had our second there 2 weeks ago, and couldn't believe the difference! (again public) I had to have an elective c-section due to a my pregnancy being high risk and was terrified but the doctors were helpful and reassuring. I saw a doctor everytime I went for... I was here in September 2010 when they were really busy with 'snow babies' . I had an elective c section and everybody I met was really helpful. Tips: If you are told to be in for 7am, make it 6.45 as everybody is given the same time and it's first come, first for a bed. Take away coffee's from the cafe downstairs are really good. The midwives are really busy but also really helpful so do ask if you need help. One down point is that there is no tv so if you have an extended stay before the... Read more...

Beautiful comfortable hospital. Wonderful staff however I think some of the midwives could be more understanding and not treat patients as numbers and not people. I think some of the older staff are not at all helpful and are only there for the money. I was not listened to all all by an older midwife (who I did report!). She would not believe that I was in labour as she said my induction couldnt have worked so fast and she never checked me at all. Thankfully I was in as a private patient and... Read more...

i'd really like to both rant and rave about CUMH. I was admitted as an emergency and ended up spending nearly two days in the High Dependency Unit. I can't praise the staff in that section of the hospital highly enough. The care was excellent. The baby spent two weeks in the Neo Natal Unit and again the care was brilliant and the staff friendly and helpful. When I was transferred up stairs it was a different story. Firstly I was moved at 2 in the morning into a room with a girl in labour. Not... Read more...

I had my second son here back in July 2007. I think it is a great maternity hospital and the staff are very friendly and helpfull. Nothing was too much trouble. I had my first son in the old ernville and extra beds where put in my ward at the time as there was a baby boom but in CUMH the set up is much better. Four per room with an en-suite to share. As it was only opened a few months at the time everyting was clean and modern. No tv in the room but they do provide a room with a large... Read more...

My experience from this comes from dealing with two sick family members. One, my grandmother, broke her hip. She was taken care pretty well, but whilst i was visiting her, one thing that i did notice was that a lady across the room from her had had her blood pressure taken, and the equipment was still strapped to her arm. A few minutes later a nurse came over to take the machinery that reads the blood pressure, as the woman was sleeping, and i assume it was required by another patient. The... Read more...

i had my doughter in here in august 2007 5 months after it had opened. I found the midwives very helpful and sympathetic. As it was my 1st child i was very scared and diddnt know what to expect but they assured me in every possible way, i had a room on my own i dont know why but i was'nt complaining, it was very clean and if i needed anything i just rang the bell and someone wouold come straight in to me. I had to have an emergency c section and afterwards while recovering the staff would help... Read more...

This hospital opened in March 2007 and it was immediately apparent that it wasn’t big enough. I had a baby here in May 2007 and they were pushing patients to leave. Some patients were being sent off to Limerick because there wasn’t room in the new hospital. The place wasn’t nearly as clean as you’d expect it to be either. Overall it was an OK experience but not as good as I would expect.... Read more...
