Lovely terrace, friendly staff, food ok

Have eaten here on a couple of occasions. The terrace is a perfect place to relax away from the hustle and bustle of the town center however the food is a little bit disappointing. The staff are friendly but service can be slow. Breakfast was too greasy for my taste, lunch was better in comparison, nice place but not one of my favourites... Read more...

Expensive

I've been here once and I can't say I'm a big fan. The prices are pretty high if you take into account the okay but not astounding quality of the food, and I don't like having to wait to be seated. I understand that some people enjoy this kind for service but I personally don't - just let me sit down if there's a free table! It also takes a while for the food to be brought out, as such this is not somewhere that I'd recommend someone to go to for their lunch hour. ... Read more...

Could do better

Douglas & Kaldi should be my favourite cafe/restaurant - nice chairs, nice atmosphere, great balcony area and lovely staff. The only problem is that its food lets it down everytime. I keep trying it , hoping on the off chance they have realised their achilles heel, but everytime I come away disappointed. It's not unbearable but just lack-lustre. The chips are often over cooked and their bread and butter pudding was very strange ! It's one of those places that I really hope does well... Read more...

A Languid Letdown

I find that the ambience at Douglas & Kaldi seems to jar with what is eventually presented to you on a plate. Pretty lighting, brown leather, dark wood, a bright, lofty mood, and good intentions don't make up for what read like an exciting dish but what turned out to be an amalgamation of every tired ingredient in the fridge. My salad was an unfortunate example of quantity over quality, which, ironically, yielded neither pineapple nor sweetcorn, as promised. A ciabatta was big, bland,... Read more...

I am glad I didn't read the reviews before trying out D&K at the Dundrum Town Centre. My experience was positive on the whole. We ate there a few weeks ago, using the cinema ticket and meal combo. It suited us perfectly. We had a bite to eat and were fed and watered in plenty of time before the start of the movie. We both ate the burgers which were really good. ... Read more...

Cake ok

My boyfriend and I decided to go here for dessert once after having dinner in another restaurant and it's such a nice cafe. It was evening so it was quite dark and the lighting was very low. The atmosphere is very hushed and there were a lot of couples so it's not the place to talk loudly. It seems more like the place to go for dinner with your other half and talk softly to one another over the candle light and make eyes at eachother over the table. Yuck. Anyway, I ordered chocolate cake and a... Read more...

Adequate

As others have noted, the service at Douglas & Kaldi is unnervingly slow. The kitchen is very quick to get food out, but it seems to take forever to put your order in - it seems like common sense to take a drinks order early and delay the food a little bit to take the pressure off the kitchen, but they seem to do the exact opposite, and it's not exactly pleasing for customer or, you'd imagine, chef. The whole place is very relaxed - probably too relaxed, considering - and you can sit... Read more...

Not going back any time soon

I had an awful experience here. My boyfriend and I decided to try it out because it looked new to us when we passed it. We were seated promptly and our orders were taken very quickly. I ordered a leek & potato soup and a side salad and my boyfriend got the steak sandwich with chips. Food was fast enough getting to our table, but wasn't exactly praiseworthy. My bowl of soup was tiny and bland; it needed a lot of help from my good friends salt and pepper. My salad was boring, dry, and the... Read more...

I was out with the girls at the weekend and they said this place was great place to eat as they had been here before. It looks so tiny from front but as you are brought to you seat you very surprised by the back area and terrace. Staff are very prompt and friendly. We didnt have to wait long at all for our food which was delish, the french toast and bacon were lovely. I didnt get a chance to taste any deserts (doesnt help havin given up chocolate for lent) but I will definitely be going back... Read more...

We tried this place recently which has nice setting on middle floor in DTC. The service was extremely slow which was my biggest complaint and the table we were seated at was quiet cramped. Would I rush back here again, probably not. I'm sure the terrace in summer is quiet nice and the decor is somewhat nicer than your average bistro restaurant.... Read more...

You would think that a new food place a centre so saturated with food places already would be a bad idea, what more could they possibly offer you? Well I personaly find this place to be quite enchanting, the decor is really warm and welcoming with lots of dark browns and leafy greens! The staff seem well trained and quite attentive, never leaving you sitting long waiting for service or your food. The menu is quite varied with sandwiches, soups, pizzas and a host of other goodies!
