Quite average as a music shop! Always has the pop charts 1D and the likes, not so great for alternative tastes. However i must say they always seem to have good deals on dvds and box sets! place never really seems that busy which is a pity as its got some good aspects to it. Its grand to pick up a present, but its pretty small, if your looking for something outside the box look elsewhere.... Read more...

handy for picking up a present

I have always found this place a little goldmine for picking up presents for friends and family. I never go to nutgrove shopping centre with the intention of going to golden discs but it is well placed so whether i'm going to Tesco, Dunnes, Lifestyle sports, the 2 euro shop or boots you have to pass this shop (well if you have a buggy to push you do, to get around the steps). This is more of a stall than anything, it's right in the centre of Nutgrove Shopping Centre. The selection isn't too good, it leaves a lot to be desired for anyone who has a big interest in music. It's the sort of place you shouldn't go to if you have any particular CD in mind because you probably won't find it here. It's good to browse in, but it's not particularly great. Golden Discs has been around at Nutgrove for a long time now, and it is impossible to doubt that it is very much a distinct element of the shopping centre. A lot has changed over time at Golden Discs, from the days when there were more singles to the modern day when more and more, DVDs are sold. The prices aren't the cheapest, but they're OK and some CDs have very good prices on them. The range of CDs is broad enough and if you're looking for DVDs, there are some good ones for sale too.... I think that Golden Discs used to be a lot better- the selection that they have now is not waht it used to be. I think that the competition from larger franchises or on line music stores has also made it hard for them to compete when it comes to price. I would generally go to a bigger store these days. They do have some good offers on CD/DVD's like 3 for 2 and the likes but they are still more than what people are willing to pay i think!... Read more...

i think since the whole itunes thing etc that people have kind of forgotten about little music shops!! golden discs is a golden oldie! my auntie lives near here and i sued to spend a lot of time in her house so i know that this has een here for many years! its kind of small but always has what u want!... Good ol Golden Discs! The shop is bang in the middle of the shopping centre! They have great deals all the time...and as Jenny mentioned seem to be on a permenant sale! Sure as a customer, i am not complaining!! If you do a bit of searching you can find the not so well known stuff! Its a great place for a few cheap dvd or cd's.... Read more...

This is one of those places that I've often wondered how they stay open. It has been in a constant state of 'sale' for as long as I can remember and there never seems to be that many customers. If you are looking for something a little bit obscure this is probably not the place to search. I suppose it must be owing to space restrictions but they don't carry a large range of products, although you can find the odd random non-mainstream title. Golden Discs has operated its spot in the middle of Nutgrove Shopping Centre for as long as I can remember - in fact, it's been there as long as the shopping centre - and has become as much a part of the furniture as Dunnes and the Motor Tax Office. Back when I was a lad, Golden Discs was the place you went to pick up singles - back then, at our age, albums were still too expensive to buy and singles were as good as it got. Quite a small shop, stocking only the classic and popular cd's and dvd's. You can find better value elsewhere but only by a small margin. You can find a good bargain during a sale or speical offer. The staff are friendly but they don't go out of their way to help you. Overall my impression of the shop isn't bad, but it isn't wonderfull wither. It's good if you need to pick up a present for someone but if your music taste's aren't mainstream this is'nt the shop for you!... Read more...
