Back again.
(22 March 2012)
by: Oisin L. 5 out of 5
Went back again recently and it is just as good as it ever was. I didn't get any food so I cant comment on that, but this is still a great true Irish bar and worth a trip for any tourist. Head along and grab a pint of Guinness and a great pint at that. You'll hear stroies from some eccentric locals and watch theh world go by. This is a must on any pub crawl of Dublin. If you haven't been here, go, as soon as you can. Like all good irish bars, it doesn't have a tv and it has little snugs... Read more...

Wonderful, friendly, genuine, family run local pub with great Tapas food in the evening and funky lunch menus. No "meat, spuds and 2 veg" here!! ... Read more...

great irish pub!
(29 November 2011)
by: Suzanne E. 5 out of 5
This review is purely from a Alcohol (not food) point of view! I love this pub. I only go to the bar and its very friendly and fun! Theres not too many seats, or rather benches, so you migh thave to squeeze in somewhere but you'll end up chatting with the other people anyway! The beer is cheaper than most pubs and thats always a plus. The owner of the pub has a dog and 'Setanta' is often seen around the place, and some of the patrons brings dogs too! Dont expect nice decor in the bar, but... Read more...

Update on Tapas
(14 November 2011)
by: Alfreda O. 5 out of 5
At last, fresh tasty fish tapas at remarkable value! Sea food Saturday has kicked off in the lounge at John Kavanaghs The Gravediggers, from 6pm to 8.30pm. Try 'Ricks Clams' unbelievable value, and the flavours and smells are wonderful, fresh sardines and prawns pil-pil to die for, staff as always are very plesant and the atmosphere perfect for conversation, they don't take credit/debit cards but you and few pals will feast on €20! the portions are plentiful, and with prices from... Great Place
(18 September 2011)
by: alexia S. 4 out of 5
This is a real "local". Great atmosphere to the place and very friendly staff and patrons alike. It is located in Glasnevin North City beside the cemetery. There are no TVs or Music so you make your own fun. Its really a place to catch up with friends and have a chat as opposed to a night on the tiles. It has real old world charm and the regulars there give it a homely feel. They offer a bar food menu with items such as oysters, toasties, tapa. Really ice place to go for a quiet... Read more...

I had been told by friends that if I ws ever in the area that I should pay a visit to Kavanaghs. I was glad I did. Its beside the cemetry so we had no hassle in finding the place. Its an old pub with a big athomsphere. My boyfriend was drinking the Guinness (which was recommended) and he said it was superb. Was a very enjoyable night. Would defo go back there.... Read more...

Great Pub
(29 May 2011)
by: Jenny M. 5 out of 5
I had my first experience in here during the week and loved it. I am always a fan of old style pubs and this one is definitely one of the best. It is a little out of the way but I recommend it to anyone. They have a lovely pint and staff serving it to you. There is a really nice atmosphere in it too, some kind of old Dublin feel that just makes the pint and conversation flow with ease. There is no smoking area but its a quiet road outside. I will certainly be making the journey back. ... Read more...

I miss this place!!
(13 May 2011)
by: Pat G. 5 out of 5
Any time I travel back to Dublin and Glasnevin, I have to return to the Gravediggers. It's like no other pub I've been in, the pint is great, the surroundings are completely authentic and I really like the fact that there are no televisions or other distractions. As far as I know, this is the pub that some Smithwicks ads were filmed in. I can't believe that it's not packed every time I go in, it's like a secret, hidden gem of a pub.I always went for a pre-dinner Sunday pint with my father here... Read more...

Great Pint
(24 February 2011)
by: Ian s. 4 out of 5
I have been here a bit too much lately which says enough about the Diggers. Its a unique and great pub that serves the best pint of Guinness around. The pub is split into a bar and lounge each with separate entrances. The bar is like going back in time, it hasn't changed in over a hundred years. Gets a great mix of a crowd. The green outside gets packed during the summer and there's a great atmosphere. no music or televisions inside so its a great spot for a pint and a chat.... Read more...

Too old
(18 October 2010)
by: .Erin F. 2 out of 5
I knew this pub was going to be a bit of an older crowd for me but since my friends moved in across the road from it we thought we'd give it a try!! One we walked in we felt like we had walked into a a very old style irish pub, cigerette smoke and everything!! Although there was no one smoking it just had a smokey feel to it!! The place was very dark and quite musty. We found it quite funny that instead of darts being played in the corner it was horseshoes. `The drinks we got were not great and... Read more...

Best pub in dublin
(17 September 2010)
by: Oisin L. 5 out of 5
Without a doubt this is the best pub in dublin. It is easily the most authentic without going overboard and becoming all touristy. They do an excellent pint of guinness and the clientele are very nice. Anytime I want to show a foreigner the "traditional irish" pub in dublin, this is the only place to go. The biggest problem with this pub is the location. It's a bus ride out of the city so if you're staying late you'll need a taxi.... Read more...
