stodge

Disappointing - go if you want a stodgefest. Onion soup tasted of sugar, salt & a beef stock cube. Far too much food served - seriously ! Pork belly & gratin nice but too much, cabbage dripping in butter, salad soaked in mustard dressing, and whats the fried tomato for?. All I want is simple good food I can actually taste. Wine list limited & toilets smell of must - overrated.... Read more...

Can't book here, so important to arrive 'earlyish 'in the evenings to avoid the queue. Tables are rustic french farmhouse style, and nite-lites on the table assist in the great atmosphere and 'buzz' of the place.I passed on starter, mycompanion had french onion soup with croutons - i had a spoonful -delicious (about €7). I had toulouse sausage with lyonnaise ppotatoes -delicious too, and around €11. Companion had duck , served with a lovely orange puree- more expensive , but... Read more...

A group of us headed to l'Gueuleton for lunch. The menu offered a number of good choices, with a decidedly French accent to most dishes. We opted not to have starters as 3 of us were seduced by the description of a lime creme caramel with mango sorbet and vowed to leave room for this delectible-sounding desert, which in the end turned over to be over-limed and slightly disappointing. The mains were tasty and fairly substantial. The fact that Orangina is served was a welcome salute to la vie... Read more...

Not as good as I expected

(18 December 2009)

After reading all the reviews I had very high expectations of L'gueuleton. I ordered the escargot and the seafood rague because I had a big seafood craving. The escargot was very tasty but not extraordinary. The seafood rague was a huge disappointment. The lobster was tough and either really over cooked or just of poor quality. My boyfriend had the gravolox and the duck. The gravalox was fair. The duck was amazing. I have to say the owner was a funny character and very nice. We ordered... Read more...
