Take a walk.

The original entrance to this museum was on the opposite side. That is why the stuffed elephant and hanging skeleton of the Blue Whale is facing in the opposite direction. It was too difficult to turn them around when they positioned the entrance on the Merrion Square side. A great place to visit. Downstairs you have the creepy crawlies with the stuffed animals on the first floor. Lots of interesting rocks and precious stones. http://www.everytrail.com/guide/museums-art-and-genealogy... Kids love it!
(24 April 2012)
by: Audrey C. 5 out of 5
We have been here quite a few times since it has reopened. My kids love it. There is lots to see and i remember going here as a child and loving it. Its mainly upstairs so very difficult with a buggy. It is free and great for rainy days but can get quite packed and stuffy inside. Unfortunately it does not open on Mondays and this also includes bank holidays. ... Read more...

Museum
(22 March 2012)
by: Oisin L. 5 out of 5
This is a really great museum, and is well worth a visit if you have never been. Or even if you have been before for that matter. This museum is just so interesting, with animals and insects everywhere in glass containers. And the ancient artifacts are so cool. Pricewise it is free, so that is great. You can head there on a budget, which is a hard thing to do in Dublin. It is in a great location, very easy to get to. The staff are knowledgeble and very helpful. Opening hours are good too.... Great place for the kids
(21 March 2012)
by: Ian s. 4 out of 5
Was here a few Sundays ago with the kids - hadn't been here in years and really enjoyed our day out. The kids were really impressed with the Giant Irish Deer and the African animals - especially the Rhino - pity they had to remove the horn over the last couple of weeks. The collection of fish from Irish seas is amazing. One downside was it got really really packed so if you can avoid going on Sundays you'll have the place to yourself.... Read more...

Well, some people might say its boring and dissapointing, but i think its just perfect if the weather is bad and you have kids and they will be glad to see the death zoo! Its free of charge - which i thin its fantastic. Its right in the centre of town, next to st.stephens green and close to trinity college! Its great for school trips , if you want to spend an hour or two. its funny, informativ, sometimes creepy - but still : it worth a visit! ... Read more...

Dead Zoo, more like Deadly Zoo!
(14 October 2011)
by: Sarah B. 5 out of 5
This place is GREAT! It's educational, fantastic, fun, interesting, beautiful and just plain awesome! You can see animals you know and heard of up close and dead, but you can also see extinct animals up close and personal! And oh and the Whale! Which looms over you on the second floor! Also, you could do what my old boyfriend and I did and see how many animals you can possibly put a bowler hat on and take photos of before you get caught. But don't tell them I suggested it. The only... Read more...

Free and Fun
(21 September 2011)
by: Hanna B. 4 out of 5
If your children enjoyed the movie ' Night at the Museum' then they will certainly enjoy the real thing ! Granted the animals don't come alive at night but you can pretend they do ! They will believe it too, as it's amazing how eerie and almost alive the many species of animals from wolves to seals appear ! It's certainly an experience worth trying and you'll be surprised at how many of the species are found in Ireland ! From spiders to fish you'll find every type of specie under the one... Read more...

free entrance
(20 September 2011)
by: Dee D. 3 out of 5
I have gone into this Museum several times over the years and missed it badly when it closed. It is a nice way to spend a hour or two looking at the different animals and many of the species are disappeared. The insect collection is huge and it is enjoying walking around and looking at the birds nests with their eggs and babies. The first time I saw the displays I just thought there was something weird about all the stuffed animals and scary. Free entrance and on a wet day in Dublin and you... Read more...

Dead as a door knob
(15 September 2011)
by: Marshall K. 3 out of 5
This place sounds exciting, hundred upon hundreds of taxidermy animal all in glass cases so you can see them up close and personal, but I feel it just falls a little into the boring category. The exhibition was moved while restoration work was being performed on the building, and it is a very beautiful building, but the inside is just cheap and dreary. The lighting is terrible, the worst I have ever seen in a museum and everything just seems dated and not in the attractive way. It is worth a... Read more...

The Dead Zoo - free and interesting
(04 June 2011)
by: Lora S.

The "Dead Zoo", more formally known as the National Museum of Ireland - Natural History, recently re-opened after three years of renovations. It's well worth a visit, and is incredible value for money (being one of the very few tourist attractions in Dublin that are free). Our kids absolutely running around the glass cabinets, growling at the stuffed animals, and rummaging through the Discovery Area, and it was interesting for me too. The design and layout of the Natural History... Read more...

Great for kids and adults alike
(20 May 2011)
by: Pat G. 4 out of 5
As a child I loved it, now as a parent I still enjoy it. I brought my children recently and they were as impressed as I was the first time that I went. Great that it's free, it could do with getting some Government funding because it can be a bit cramped and it would be a pity if a lack of funds was a cuase for it to close. Very educational and a chance for the kids to see the animals as they were when alive rather than looking at tv or in books. Also gives them a sense of the size of the... Read more...

bit disappointed
(03 April 2011)
by: Sue A. 3 out of 5
Have to say I was disappointed when I brought my daugher there. It's very cramped. Just way too much in too little space. It is interesting alright to see all the different animals but it's just way too much. You can't really appreciate the exhibitions. I'm hoping that some money will be invested to open up all floors again. There were a couple of exhibits we couldn't get to because the floors were closed due to health and safety reason. Pity really. My advice if you bring the kids - do one... Read more...
