Michael Collins.

It's hard to believe that a pub has been on this site for over 300 years. Originally a grocery store and bar one of the owners decided that people paid their "drink" slate quicker than their "grocery bill" slate so the grocery side of the business was dropped. Michael Collins used to used this pub for informal meetings of the Irish Republican Brotherhood. It's a great rugby pub and it is a comfortable place to stop and have a drink or bite to eat. Cosy atmosphere in the... Read more...

Old Stand
(01 April 2012)
by: Dee D. 3 out of 5
This was the first time I was in The Old Stand, passed by it many times and was surprised at how nice it was a typical traditional irish pub, bright inside and on this particular evening the sun was shining through the windows. I noticed a few people having something to eat, large portions and the food looked good, made a mental note for the next time I visit as we were in a rush this particular evening. The pint of Guinness was good here and we were served almost immediately.... Read more...

Lovely Pub
(01 August 2011)
by: Oisin L. 4 out of 5
I have to rate this as an excellent little pub, right in the heart of Dublin city centre. This pub has great views of the local area and you can sit over a pint, sip and watch the world go by. A pint is a decent price here and the staff are very friendly. It probably attracts an older clientele, but is equally good for families. I've had a bite to eat here a few times, and thoroughly enjoyed it each time. I'd definitely head back again.... Read more...

Excellent!!

The Old Stand do an excellent lunch. Most of the mains are priced around 10 euro which is extremely good value. It's even better value when you see the size of the meal that is put down in front of you. Two of my favourites are the bacon, cabbage and spuds and the bangers and mash. The staff are amazing. As soon as you sit down they come over with menus and glasses of water. They are very friendly and make your eating experience that little bit better. The decor of the place is really... Read more...

Good Pub
(10 January 2011)
by: Annie C. 4 out of 5
Was only in this pub a few times but really enjoyed it. It is a traditional irish pub serving good pints. The staff are friendly and the place is usually busy but any time i was there i got a seat. i think that this pub is more for the male drinker than the female as anytime i have been in here there has been a majority of males to females. There is a good atmosphere here and it is worth checking out.... Read more...

Real traditional pub
(31 July 2010)
by: hugh m. 4 out of 5
Located at the corner exchequer Street, Th Old Stand is well known and loved by Dublin pubgoers. Its a real traditional pub thats kept up with the times without losing any of it's old world atmosphere. The place is always hopping on match days . Have eaten in here many a lunch hour and their food is simple but really really good. Their open sandwiches are a meal in themselves. ... Read more...

Old world charm
(30 March 2010)

The Old Stand is an old traditional dublin pub situated just off Grafton street. The decor is really nice - the leather seating and the traditional wooden bar create a nice atmosphere. The pub is a well known starting point for the rugger crowd on match days and its usually packed to the rafters. The pint is excellent and theres a decent enough food menu on offer also.... Drinking with History
(18 February 2010)
by: Nigel D. 4 out of 5
I have been to this pub over the last 35 years (and also a ritual meeting there since then with a group of best friends just before every Christmas). There is great atmosphere , bar staff are efficient and friendly, and the food menu is pretty good too. Location of this landmark pub is excellent.Clientele tend to be a bit older , like myself, but the association/link with the past is really great for some of us!... Read more...

Just cross the road
(31 January 2010)
by: Laura B. 3 out of 5
The Old Stand is a nice bar for what it is, but it's not exactly the most exciting bar in all the land. The decor is nice, the staff are friendly and they do a good pint, but that's not all that a bar is about. There is zero atmosphere in the bar and it seems the clientelle are more passers-by than regulars and so there isn't much banter about the place. It's a fine place if you want a quiet pint and to read the paper but definitely not somewhere I'd be going for a Saturday night out. The... Read more...

Excellent
(17 February 2009)

I visited this pub over christmas for the first time and very very surprised at the comfort and enjoyable experience. First off, the target audience would be an older more professional crowd, something I prefer. With beautiful high frontal glass, you have perfect scenic views of Exchequer St, giving a very modern yet traditional feel for Dublin. They were serving nice plates of hot food at 8pm, which made me quiet peckish. There were quiet a few guys in there sitting at bar reading the Irish... Read more...
