Too Many 'Repeats'; Tired Presenters and Dubious 'Stars'

(01 May 2012)

Report

by: Nigel D. 2 out of 5

Last reviewed in 2010 and my view has not changed. Very poor offering overall for the national station and my personal view is:- - Too much negative stuff, like a broken record , on the economy, in the form of repetitive overwhelmingly negative current affairs programmes ( I dread to think how sick I am going to feel about the coming referendum-RTE will 'do'it to death -With exceptions from time to time, lacklustre general viewing and chat programmes at peak times, bringing on 'stars' who... I pay my TV licence for this.

(06 March 2012)

by: Ballot Box .. 2 out of 5

I have to say when I review the TV stations that I watch then RTE is way down the list. Considering that I am paying my TV licence to watch so few RTE programmes makes each programme an expensive treat. There is so much doom and gloom on RTE at the moment as well as the endless prosession of politicians with their false rhetoric, spin and same old, same old that I need to switch to another station to avoid. We then have the copycat celebrity programmes with the wannabe presenters and... Read more...

Disappointing

(11 December 2011)

Report

by: P A. 2 out of 5

Everytime I watch RTE I just get more and more disappointed in it. On Friday night Daniel O'Donnel was on the Late Late - well at least it makes a change from Mary Byrne, a member of Boyzone, Westlife or one of the various comedians that Tubs seems to have on some sort of rotating timetable or something. Do they pay these people retainers? It's the practically the same line-up every year. Now Westlife have broken up they will probably have the 4 of them on individually each season! Flick... Liveline.

(24 November 2011)

Report

by: Soylent Green .. 2 out of 5

I have to say that listening to the Liveline show presented by Joe Duffy is doing my head in. So much so I think that I am going to switch off from now on. People come on the show, make their point and then silence. Joe isn't listening. He seems to spend his time looking at who the next caller is rather than listening to the people who are speaking live. He never asks an intelligent question and seems terrified that every caller is going to say something libelous or defamatory on his show. I... Read more...

Fair City.

by: Bronco .. 3 out of 5

I had to appear on a discussion panel on an RTE documentary show so I was in and out of here a few times over a few days. The Montrose grounds are really nice to walk through. I understand that the original building here was the home of the Jameson family before RTE moved in from their premises in Henry Street. Lots of trees, walkways etc through the grounds. This is a nice place to visit and well worth the effort. If you are a fan of Fair City you can even see some of the props to the rear of... Read more...

RTE

With all the station sometime I can never find anything of interest on. RTE give the other stations a god run for their money and have some interesting programmes. One particular on is all in Irish with subtitles called Réabhlóid and is very well put together and I would consider top class. These little gems of programmes are few and far between. I enjoy the secret Millionaire, but do not like the Late Late and Saturday night show and interviews by Gay Byrne and Mike Murphy. Good... Read more...

The Pits!!!

(19 September 2011)

Report

by: maura f. 1 out of 5

RTE is the pits, its a joke that we have to pay for a license to watch it. Apart from the news it is not worth turning on. Occassionally if l am bored l will tune in to Fair City but thats it. At peak times its a constant repetition of Reeling In The years and other repeats. Gone are the good old days of Gay Byrne and the Late Late Show, nothing personally against Ryan Tubridy but his Z lister guests are mundane and boring. RTE needs a re-vamp and needs to give us value for our license!!... Read more...

Consider Saorview if you are an RTE fan.

by: Soylent Green .. 3 out of 5

I am doing a bit of research at the moment about bundling my phone, broadband and T.V. During my research I cam across the relatively new Saorview system. Apparently you need to get a desktop box and aerial for the roof of your house and after that you have free viewing of the Irish stations of RTE's Tg4 TV3 but none of the UTV, Chaannel 4, BBC etc offerings. There are numerous masts dotted around the country so you can pick up free Irish stations relatively easy. Apparently if you live in a... Read more...

RTE truly is a terrible channel that hasn't seemed to progress at all since their arrival in in the 60's. We are forced to pay a television license for programming that is downright terrible and very boring. Compared to other national channels in other countries we get very poor TV shows that seem to be all aimed at older generations and that aren't very exciting at all. *cough* Late Late *cough*. If they were to cater to all audiences they would be a much better channel, thank god we have RTE... Read more...

RTE would not be a channel that would be on in my house to often other than to catch a game or to see the news. Other than that it would never go on. All there films are years old, presenters are boring even news readers look like they have seen better days. It carried none of the regular soaps that I would watch when I get the time so that would be a big thumbs down for me. At Chtistmas My children would watch this station and would it have lovely programs... Read more...

I also think that RTEis very good. Look at their sports coverage in fairness it is second to none, the only exception being the Cycling which is for TG4, but its GAA, soccer, athletics, golf etc its hard to go wrong. Then we have the various Crime Shows like CSI from Vegas to New York, and Law and Order to name but a few. finally don't forget the Den that we grew with and Zig and Zag and good old Dustin... Where do I begin giving out about RTE? The license fee that we are subjected to for "quality" television. The boring presenters that seem to think they should grace Hollywood? I'll start, I suppose with their listings as the "treats" treats for Autumn/Winter 2011 have just been unveiled. People, ye'll be glued to your seats (not!). The Late Late show, Mrs Browns Boys etc are back and I can hardly contain myself. The amount of reality shows this station is now showing is a... Read more...
