Charming

Recently taken over and very much open again, the residence is located on stephen's green opposite the Shelborne hotel. Set over 4 floors, with numerous back rooms and bars it enables you to lose oneself amongst many different types of clientel. Aged between 30 to 50, so don't expect your student go lucky type to be falling around residence. Why is residence different? Well if you want exclusivity, then it's there in spades. The split levels enables you to either have a quiet drink at one of... Read more...

Nice for special occasion...pricey though

Went here for an anniversary dinner, food was amazing and sommelier was very friendly and recommended a lovely wine with our meal.Surroundings are romantic and intimate in the main dining room upstairs. We were invited to stay for a drink, which we did.A table was reserved for us outside in the smoking area, which I found a nice touch.Meal was very overpriced, considering our current economic climate, also bar drinks. But all in all,a very enjoyable place, nice for a special occasion/treat... have been here a good few times over the last year or so and i would say that it is neither good nor bad! The crowd here is what i would call interesting and there is certainly a mix of the type of people who go in here. As it is a private members club you can get a few stuffed up toffees and the booze is a little pricey- the smoking area is nice as far as smoking areas go- but the toilets are a pain in the neck- there's not enough of them and they are in really inconvenient places!... I found this club really to be full of posh people to be honest, all suited up! It was the first club that I had been in that there was no drunk peolpe falling around! It is in a beautiful building, and the interior is very very nice. There was also no teenagers stumbling about. If you go, make sure to dress very very well and bring ID- they insisted on checking my 24 year old freids- she took it as a compliment!... Read more...

Lovely place - door now very strict

(01 February 2011)

This is one of the best places for a night out, although since it has been taken over the door policy is now far stricter than it was. Most of the staff are still the same and are the friendliest and most helpful in town. I love the way that it has so many different areas, from the lovely outdoor garden area, to the 3rd floor bar which almost always has a piano player who gets the crowd involved in sing-songs. The food in the restaurant is really delicious, if very expensive - if you want to... Read more...

i really have an appreciation of this place because its one of the few places in the city centre that has a superb location but is not full of drunk teenagers. you can be sure of a peaceful evening upon attendence here and although yes it is a more expensive night out it is well worth the extra expense. the staff are very attentive to service and presentation. its really nicely decorated too.... Check out the new Behan lodge in the garden at residence, very cool and comfortable. Graham the chef is excellent and I highly recommend the experience. Paolo T gave it a superb review in the Independent.... You don't have to be a member to dine in the restaurant.... Read more...

Residence on Stephen's Green is a members club but I'm not a member I've just been there a few times to events it's a great venue for that. It's not the kind of place I could afford to go and unlike Lillies it is a genuine hangout for some of Ireland's more noteworthy talent. The last time I was there I found myself standing next to Dumbledore, or Michael Gambon as he is more commonly known. The original decor, beautifully restored makes it a lovely setting for a glass of wine and some relaxed... Read more...

Make sure you pack your suit and tie

I have been here twice in the last couple of months on 2 very different occasions. The first time I was there with a gang of mates who were celebrating the forthcoming wedding of some friends. (Is that not what you do on the wedding day?). We had reserved a space on the top floor away from the hustle and bustle and the size of our party meant that I hardly even noticed anybody else. The decor is sumptious, the staff are friendly and efficient and I had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Step... Read more...

Private members club or nightclub?

(24 July 2009)

Report

by: Owen W. 4 out of 5

What is the residence, private members club or another lillies? First off I'm not a member, but have managed to gain access on the few occassions that I have. How it's different is that your met at the door by a hostess, who check that your a member (I gave name of someone who was) and they asks you how many people will be joining you. Their names then go on list..... Initial impressions can be deceptive as this place is quiet large, with many floors and not forgetting the large outdoor area... Read more...

Ok, this place is a new private members club just on the corner of stephens green owned and run by the same guys who own bang around the corner. It's clearly positioned above Renards in the sense of it's not as chessy or full of complete dickh****. If you completely feed up with the lillies and renards of this world, then I would recommend the residence, purely because it's more calm, relaxed and open environment and decor. Open in the sense that it's spread over 4 floors in a georgian house... Read more...
