good spot, but i think it has closed down!
(19 August 2010)

i used to go the the 'old' spy, which was, to be honest quite pretentious! it has a lovely interior, which i think in the past couple of years has seen some unsightly scences!! they seem to let absolute hooligans in these days and i think it was to their demise! as far as i know the club has recently closed down and im not suprised! i will say that i was there a few months and i thought hte bouncers were absolute pigs!! the way they treat the drunken clientele is unbelievable. i saw one... setting
(21 July 2010)
by: alison k. 5 out of 5
This club has the most casual setting ever, its designed like an old house. This gives it a really relaxed friendly atmosphere. Also, the music (techno mostly) is consistently brilliant. Iv never had a bad night here. Its location is great as its close to others bars and nightclubs.... Read more...

House Party
(01 July 2010)
by: Marshall K. 5 out of 5
This place is like one big house party. It is an empty Victorian house containing some original features such as original hard wood floors and plaster ceiling roses this is all in-tangled with colorful modern lighting. The basement which is dark and small is called wax and pumps out techno and dance all night long. If your into you florescent clothing, neon paint and glow sticks this is exactly what you will get in wax. The upstairs is separated into 3 different rooms the first has a large... Read more...

Nice place but no atmosphere
(27 June 2010)
by: kaz f. 2 out of 5
I have mixed feelings about this place for a night out. It’s a really old building and the feel is like being in someone’s house party. I like the concept behind the place and the cocktails are really good (pricey) but I just don’t think it works for some reason. The last time I was there was Halloween which should have been great but the atmosphere was lacking, I think its probably the way it is so segmented that it makes it difficult to create a good atmosphere. I... Read more...

Great Club
(04 June 2010)
by: Jonathan B. 4 out of 5
Been to spy twice now and really enjoyed it! the layout between upstairs and downstair works really well i think. Spy always has great themed nights on during the college term. Entry is very low compared to some places at only a fiver and drink promo's are very good. Wax (downstairs) was one of my fav nights out in dublin. Great dance/techno music with good lighting and good atmosphere. Highly recommended for a great night out!... Read more...

Hit/Miss
(24 April 2010)

Spy/Wax was my favourite nightclu in Dublin for a long time. The layout of the place is amazing with a huge dancefloor and bar upstairs with sofas and weird architecture, playing good indie electro music. Downstairs is a Wax a very dark spot with great electro and techno music , and a smoking area. The drinks prices are reasonable with lots of drink promotions and cover charge is cheap at 5euro. One thing Spy is excellent at is themed nights, with something different every week. Going on a... Read more...

a little piece of hoxton in dublin
(11 April 2010)
by: Laura B. 4 out of 5
I think this place attracts a lot of "regulars". A lot of my friends hate Spy because of the crowd who tend to go there. Personally I think they take certain kinds of pretentiousness too seriously. This place is fantastic! Two floors- when I was there they'd play all the techno music downstairs and the indie music upstairs. Downstairs was amazing. They had a few long seated areas near the bar, an overcrowded dance floor, and then a smoking area that had the charm of being built... Read more...

A night at war
(09 March 2010)
by: Roxanne B. 4 out of 5
I had intentions to have a night out in the place for AGES and finally, after about a year I'd say, I set foot in the place. On a Friday night the joint fills up rapidly and becomes a giant sauna full of nerds, hipsters, drag queens, underdressed girls and just about any other exaggerated stereotype of a person. This SHOULD be a bad thing, but for some reason, it isn't. Maybe it's the fact that no one here seems to care about what other people think, or maybe it's the beautiful bond that is... Read more...

I wish it had more fans.

I have an enormous soft spot for Spy on South William Street. Its open Wednesday to Saturdays I think, with War (and Songs for Swinging Children) on Friday night being the highlight for me (although the fact Soundcheck on Thursdays used to show Tommy Wiseau's The Room on a regular basis has to mentioned). As a venue its a beautiful building and I guess the interior matches up to the exterior; on the ground floor you've got the monkey bar which is really comfortable and relaxed for the early... Cool architecture.
(06 February 2010)
by: Cathal C. 2 out of 5
I can't really decide whether I'm a fan of Spy or not. I am, I suppose. Of its positive aspects, Spy has a kick-ass layout: its in Georgian building on South William St, so it has the whole architectural aspect going for it. And one of the rooms is done up like a regency house, with a fireplace and leather wing armchairs and everything. Plus, Spy do drinks promotions mid-week - sometimes it's pitchers for a tenner, other days cocktails are a fiver before eleven. On the negative side, Spy... Read more...
