well-kept park

(24 June 2010)

This park is definitely a land mark in Dublin City, and especially during these Summery days, is always densely packed with people from all walks of life. The park is often too packed in the afternoon to even find a seat so be warned! There is a lot to see in the park, and it is exceptionally large given it's very central location. There is a large pond, many tree-lined trails, a courtyard with flowing fountains and an active bandstand, a children's playground, and many interesting sculptures.... Read more...

The greater the sinner, the greener the saint.

The park is a wonderful place to eat. This is because eating is one of our most primal function as human beings and by eating on the grass we somehow get "in touch with nature" or some other equally deep hippy sensation. But in all seriousness, what better place to relax than on pristine lawns watching light reflect on water and oblivious ducklings glide through your mirror image. Serenity, no? Certainly this is one of the few green areas in Dublin upon which you can sit down... Read more...

Great if you work in town

This park has inproved a lot and is better policed, as Nigel indicates, than it used to be. When I worked in D2 it was great to wander through it to the shops in Grafton Street or to lunch their on sunny days and watch the world go by. Its a great spot to take a child as they can feed the ducks and lovely to see elderly people alone sit on benches and watch passers by or occasionaly engage with them.... Read more...

All it takes is a bit of sun.

St Stephen's Green is a pretty, green, public space right beside the shopping centre of the same name at the top of Grafton Street on Dublin's southside. Because of the unpredictability of the Irish weather, you can be guaranteed that this place becomes crowded and vibrant with the first hint of sun in the summer months. You'll find all types here: business people on their lunches, flocks of teenagers, shoppers taking a break from their travails, tourists flaking out and playing frisbee and all... Read more...

Smashing in Summer!

This park is just so beautiful in summer. It's so lovely to have a large open green area full of flowers, plants, birds and ponds that young and old alike can relax, stroll and enjoy a break form the city hustle and bustle. Loads of entrances and gates so it is accessible from many sides. Always kept very well. Can be very crowded though if the weather is amazing. Great playground for kids. Lovely park!!... A scene from a poem

Stephen's green is usually very crowded but I went there one beautiful Sunday morning while I was waiting for my boyfriend who was running late because he couldn't decide what colour socks to wear. So I was sitting there on a bench in front of the lake, sipping at a cup of tea from o'brien's and enjoying the sun shining on my face. It was a moment of pure tranquility. Not even the scabby pigeons bumbling nearby could have spoiled my mood. If I had full hearing I would have enjoyed the song of... Read more...

Steven's Green? Ahhhhhhhhh it's OK. Why is it only OK? Well, it is in the heart of the city for example, and that's great when you wanna escape the rampant urbanisation, but Steven's Green is always just so darn crowded. It's almost impossible to get a bench, and since we happen to live in Ireland, it's hard to rest yourself on the grass instead when it's often deceptively damp. It does well to conceal the dilapidated depths of Dublin city, only metres away, with it's lusious deciduous... Read more...

like a festival during the summer, with everyone sitting out. also beautiful during the autumn. I love coming to see the baby ducks in spring. Ok it's nice all the time! Used to go to the playground when I was younger but it hasn't been done up in a while. Nice to see the flower beds are still in tact though. Always seem to run into someone you know here!...
