Cool

I think this is a great place for concerts and shows. As a nightclub, it's not the best, I'd rarely stay here all night. When the world cup was on they showed loads of the matches and it was great craic. They have some great deals on drink too, though the pints are average. They serve some nice coctails too, like mojitos etc. I've never had a bad night here, though I would usually be gone by 11 or 12 pm, and onto somewhere else.... Read more...

Good for gigs

I've been going to this club since it opened, but I think it's gone downhill in recent years, maybe because less people go to it. It's worth going to if there's a gig or show on beforehand that you want to go to. Otherwise, the nightclub often isn't that great and it's hard to justify paying 10euro plus in somewhere when there are so many late bars in town that are free in and open until the same time. The seating is also great for when you're looking down at the stage, but kind of annoying... Read more...

Hit and miss

This is a great venue if you can get there early enough to get a really good table, otherwise it can be crap. The way that the rows of tables and seats are sloped allows a really good view of the stage but makes it very hard for groups of friends to mix - if there are more or less than 4 or 5 of you then the table and stool layout won't suit you. The bar service is pretty slow and the crowd can sometimes be very pretentious. Totally depends on the night that's in it - with a good live band it... Read more...

A great place for a night out! This place has been running for a good few years now and has not lost its feel to it like many nightclubs do after years of running. I love the fact that they have different gigs to suit all crowds, it never ceases to amaze me what they will have on next. If you fancy a good night out and something totally different check out what they have on offer... Read more...

Intimate venue

I've been to Sugar Club to see the High Kings and really enjoyed it. The gig was meant to be intimate and exclusive, and they managed to create that atmosphere perfectly. The accustcs were good. Those who came later didn't get the seats, so make sure to come in early. The bar was reasonably priced and had promotional cocktails on the night. There are a few nice pubs just outside to pop in after the show.... Read more...

Great Venue

Ive been here once, i was going to see Dead Cat Bounce, who are a music/comedy act and this is where the gig was staged. The Sugar Club is centrally located and just off St Stephens Green. Inside there were tables are seats laid out. There were many different groups and most were grouped around these tables. There was a good crowd here but it wasn't overcrowded. We got jugs of cocktails which worked out cheaper than buying them individual. The staff were great, they kept to themselves but they... Read more...

Nice venue

The Sugar Club on Leeson Street is a somewhat different kind of venue , it used to be the Irish Film Theatre many years ago and has kept much of the structure and layout and has been transformed into quite a unique venue. Its small and compact with wood pannelled walls and plush seating. It plays host to a diverse range of cultural and musical performers, everything from The Tassle Club Burlesque night to film showings and live music. Good venue but not everyones cup of tea.... Good venue for gigs, bad nightclub

(08 June 2010)

I like the place as a venue for gigs, but the bar is useless and really badly understaffed. The last time i was there I was more than half an hour trying to get served, bar was 10 people deep with 3 staff. I've been to see that Ryan Tubridy band a few times their, good fun, think they play there a lot. I like the way it's sloped so you can see the band and it's reasonably comfortable. Really put off by the bar. It's fairly expensive in too and the drinks aren't cheap from my experience. I'd... Read more...

i was there several times and i did not find the place to be very pleasing to the eye. the dimmed lights look was not effective as it was too low down and hard to see! the seating was very squashed together and the bar service was slow. the bathrooms were hard to locate and i think that the whole setting was not good enough... I can see why the people who go here all the time do like it, but its not my kind of place. Firstly it was quite expensive to get in, and then inside i thought that it was extremely lacking in atmosphere. I thought it was a bit all over the place, i think the layout itself is a bit odd and i wouldnt be in a rush back there again. Plus with the location its quite a challenge to get a cab home at the end of the night!... Read more...

Great venue, but a bit iffy at times

The Sugar Club is basically an oldey-timey cinema, except instead of screening films (it might do that too), it puts on concerts and club nights, with images routinely projected on the back wall to enhance the experience. I've been to the Sugar Club on a few occasions and have never been anything less than impressed. I've seen everything from "Rock School" student bands to DJs and full professional bands, and the ambience has always been brilliant, and the setting unique. The... Read more...

I have played here myself and i have to say it is a very underrated venue in so far as what i was told about it before i checked it out for myself. The sound for performers is excellent and the equipment is very good too.The venue itself gives off a real chilled atmosphere where you can relax on the nice comfortable seats and enjoy a performance. It has a full width bar behind all the seating area and the barstaff are very capable of keeping it going well and not have you waiting too long for...
