Irish channel

My Irish is virtually non existant being a non national but I find this particularly useful for a few things. I love their GAA coverage, in particular they show a lot of the minor stuff that you cant get on any other station. They also show quite a few good films which is always a bonus. Its a shame that the language isnt as widely used as maybe it should be in this country but with institutions such as TG4 it still stands a chance.... Read more...

One of the best, and I don't even speak Irish!

As I'm not an Irish national, I really have only a cupla focail, but I still love this channel. Even when the programmes are in Irish they still have subtitles so you can understand them fine. They have brilliant documentaries, better than I've seen on any of the other Irish channels - more like something on BBC. They also show some of the best US programmes that are considered too hardcore for anywhere else but Channel 4 - I remember being completely addicted to Oz a few years ago. Public... Read more...

Good Station

When I first learned that they were setting up Telifis na Gaeilge as it was known then I thought what an awfull waste of public money when they could add a few Irish progammes to the channels we already had. But I am glad to say I was 100% wrong and narrow minded. TG4 turned out to be a great success story, they have great progammes and great staff. It was the starting place for a good few now National Stars, who would probably never have made it but for TG4. The other national station were... Read more...

This is a great tv channel to have, while my Irish would not be the best I have my child in a gaelscoil so i am learning more all the time. I would stick on this station to have as background noise in the hope that something is sinking in. I would also watch some great documentaires from time to time. I also leave the cartoons on in the hope that the kids are picking up the language. They do a quiz show from time to time that my 11 year old watches religiously. I think its great for... I think it is great that we have our own irish channel, i passed the tg4 studios before it is in the connemara coast and is such a rural area, they show a very juicy soap on this channel but if your irish isn't great it is hard to read the subtitles all the time. i think it is a positive for our country that we have our own channel. i do notice that alot of the presenters double job!!... TG4, the resource for many a flustered Irish exam student. "Put off the telly!", "But Ma, I'm studying!" I watched TG4 a fair bit when I was doing my exams, I had a particularly affinty for wacthing South Park as Gaeilge and Aifric is also a really good show. I don't watch it much anymore, now that I'm not in school, but it's definitely a useful station.... Read more...

is staisiún sarmhaith é teilifis na gaeilge (nó TG4 an ainm atá air anois) - They play many irish programmes such as fashion shows, sport, news, the weather, music programmes, childrens cartoons, irish soaps and much more!! They offer english subtitles for those who need it (888 on teletext). But they also play shows in english too to cater for all tastes such as OC, survivor, One Tree Hill etc.... Read more...

Seirbhís Iontach!

Is seirbhís iontach í TG4 ( Teilifís na Gaeilge ar stáisiún a cheathair). This is just what the Irish language needs, a tv network that promotes our country's native language. Has a great range of kids cartoons as Gaeilge, which is exactly what the kids living in the Gaeltacht deserve. Really tries to modernise the language with a soap (Ros na Rún) and Paisean Faisean fashion prgoramme, and also shows some English language programmes such as One Tree... Read more...
