love it

I truly fell in love with this cafe the first time that I was brought here by a friend.I think it is the mismatched china cups and saucers that lends a romantic feel to to the place and the fact that it is hidden at the back of the Daintree paper shop makes it feel like you've walked into Narnia. There is always a buzz in the place, its the perfect little cafe to come on a date or with the girls on a sunny day,the perfect little hideaway to escape the hustle and bustle of the city centre.... This is a great place. Like a little treasure trove at the back of the Daintree paper shop. The scones here are really good and the waiters are always lovely. It's great when there's sun and you can sit outside as it's a real suntrap. The eclectic feel to the place makes it very cool and many famous people are known to love this place. It's a nice getaway from the commercial cafes where you can't even get a seat and the food is delicious !!... Read more...

Quaint
(25 April 2011)

I've introduced most of my friends to the Cake Cafe at this stage. You can order a lovely birthday cake here and I love how the crockery is mismatched, it just makes it feel like a place in Provence. I've seen a well known Irish newsreader here, won't name names but I know it is very popular with famous people. The scones here are wonderful and you can even order sangria here in the summer months. ... Read more...

Delish
(25 January 2011)
by: Angie R. 4 out of 5
I kept hearing about this place but couldn't find it. I eventually planted myself in Camden Street and kept asking directions until I eventually found it down a lane. I now know that you can also get in there through the front of the paper shop, which would have been a lot easier. It's a really cute setting, like being in someone's conservatory and back garden. The food is served on mismatched old china. The range of sambos for lunch isn't that great, but there's something there for... Read more...

Adorable

Walking through Daintree, the stationers shop which you pass through ( full all the creative brides each Saturday) you enter a small courtyard to find this hidden gem of a place. All my favourite elements are here - mismatched china plates and cups, yummy cakes and connvivial atmosphere. ... Read more...

Poor "DEMO" Class
(14 May 2010)
by: Sarah Jane E. 2 out of 5
Im afraid I have to agree with K.B below - the cooking class in the Cake Cafe smells to me like a money making racket. Its not a cooking class, its a demo class. I feel bad writing this given that the baker was so pleasant and obviously tired after a long day in the Cake Cafe. However, people need to know what they are signing up for. If you are after an interactive hands-on class , go somewhere else. I left with a few simple recipes which to be honest were poor and i wouldnt recreate again.... Read more...

Poor baking Class
(27 April 2010)
by: K B. 2 out of 5
I went looking for baking classes cos i have a new obbession about baking and cupcakes. So i thought hey i like cake cafe treats why not try and make them. Well i persuaded a fellow Whose View friend to go to the class with me. It was at 6.30pm i was starving coming from work. Then we all hauled ourselveves into that tiny kitchen behind the bar in cafe. (there were 11 of us). We stood there for 2.5 hours. While the baker made a raisin/walnut bread (i didnt like this), cappocino cupcakes... Read more...

Excellent baking class!
(26 April 2010)

So everyone has rightly raved about the food here so I thought I should add that they also offer cooking classes at the Cake Cafe too. I was lucky enough to receive a voucher so booked myself in for a baking class where I learnt (in a group of about 8) to make delicious things such as breads and brownies. The girl that took the class was very informative and nice to us all. The only reason I'm not giving 5 * is because she seemed very unwilling for us to take any of the food (that we had... CAKE Heaven
(01 April 2010)
by: Roxanne B. 5 out of 5
SHHH! This place is a secret- created by sugar whores, for sugar whores. Also, the owners courteously tucked it away into the back of Daintree's paper shop so that poor diabetics wouldn't suffer when passing- out of sight, out of mind. Either way, unfortunate for my waist, this place is around the corner from my apartment and I'm gradually working my way through all the cakes available. My friend suggested it to me once and it was about a YEAR before we actually went! The cupcakes are divine... Read more...

Cake Cafe.
(09 March 2010)
by: Adam H. 5 out of 5
I love the Cake Cafe. Although it has a separate entrance, going through the paper shop always makes trips to it feel special. The food is good, but the cake is better, I've always thought the staff were really nice and helpful, and the mix and matched cups and saucers are a small touch but I'm a sucker for stuff like that. Seriously the only fault I can think of is I didn't like a brownie I had there once. The place is a gem.... Read more...

A hidden gem!
(23 February 2010)
by: emma f. 5 out of 5
This little treasure of a cafe, I say treasure as it's both hard to find and a luxury, is perfection. From the china cups to the blackboard in the bathroom (to write your thoughts on), everything was done with thought. The food is also delicious and very reasonably priced, I highly recommend the Baked Egg and soldiers and Beans on toast. To finish off, you can't beath their chocolate cake or brownies. It's a must. ... Read more...

One of the top 1000 best-kept secrets on Camden St
(10 August 2009)
by: Luke O. 3 out of 5
I had heard many things about this pretentiously located cafe. Situated in the back-arse of what I can only describe as a "paper merchant's", The Cake Cafe is hardly as easy to stumble upon as an ubiquitous Insomnia or rose-vending Romanian gypsy. With a copy of the Evening Herald firmly tucked under my double-bassist's sturdy elbow, I staggered in one late afternoon, alone, and walked up to the counter. A nice smoking area with a curious lack of ashtrays is immediately apparent, not... Read more...
