The Church Restaurant

(06 May 2011)

This is located on Mary Street and is well worth a visit. i was here the other night and dined in the Restaurant availing of the Four Couse Special which I have to say was in general good value. We were upstairs looking on to the main bar floor but its superbly decorated inside and has a real romantic feeling about it. 2 Waitresses served us, one recently back from a number of years away from Ireland, very nice, helpful, friendly, chatty, etc and the other lacking in the language. (Holy) Order Up

Only the Irish would think to convert church to pub - a sign of the times and the world we live in! This is a sophisticated spot in North Central Dublin that draws an older crowd and laid-back atmosphere to its hallowed aisles. Weekends pick up as Dublin's hip young hedonists come here for the swanky club and late bar whilst weekdays do well on a bit of pub grub and afternoon tipples. This place is perfect for sitting outside in the sunshine and an open barbeque seduces the olfactory... Read more...

This is a top of the range bar.Absoultely stunning surrounding - such a juxtaposition of industrial feel alluminium bar and skirting boards with the organ that handel played over looking the whole bar! A very cool restaurant is nested underneath the bar area. A must see for historian lovers and tourists alike .Join their facebook page or keep an eye on their website for cool upcoming events.... I've always been a big fan of this place. The central location, large outdoor space and decent food menu make it a popular choice. I prefer the outdoor area to inside. I love people watching and if the weather is good, there is nothing better than grabbing an outdoor table and having a few sneaky drinks. The table service can be painfully slow at times but the bar is not far enough away to cause an upset! I was fairly put out that they refused to let us in on St Patrick's day because we had a... I pass this place whenever I nip into Jervis to do a bit of shopping and its always very tempting to get in and grab a quick pint and a bite to eat. In the summer its a great spot to sit outside and not a bad meeting place as its central and places are easily accessible to it. I was actually quite surprised at how good the food was here and with a reasonable price and good service its somewhere you should try.... Read more...

Nice food and atmosphere

I work close by and go over for lunch or after works drinks quite often. I think the food is really good and (depending on who makes it) they do some very nice cocktails. Service can be a little slow at busy times but the staff are always pleasant so no complaints there. Just be careful going to the loo after a few drinks as the staircase can be quiet tricky to manovere in heels!! Like this bar during the week but I wouldn't go out of my way to go there on a saturday night.... Read more...

The best thing about this pub/restaurant is without question the building itself. It's really beautiful both inside and out and I can't quite understand how I never noticed it before it reopened as this venue. It's fine for lunch/food, nothing you wouldn't get in hundreds of pubs across Dublin. Their rules on food service are a bit strange, depending on where you sit there seem to be different menus and they will absolutely refuse to serve you from a menu that 'belongs' to a different area.... Great in the summer

This is one of the few places in town with a really good outdoor seating area - they also show the sporting events on screens outside here in the summer. I've also had lunch inside - I can recommend the soup but the sandwiches aren't the best. On a weekend night, downstairs is great fun and the only place of its kind in the area. The building itself is also really beautiful, they have leaflets explaining its history available at the main bar on the ground floor.... Read more...

This is a good opub as it is very conveniently located on Mary Street which is at the bottom of Henry Street. So whenever i am shopping on Henry St i tend to pop in here for a coffee or a bite to eat. They serve food in the main bar but they also have a restaurant upstairs which i have never tried. it is a big place and the decor is lovely service is always good too. They do nice wraps and chips.... Read more...

I have been here three times for food. Only the first time as my choice, the other 2 I only went as that was where the crowd were going. I was extremly dissappointed by the food as the setting would lead you to expect good pub grub. I have eaten the duck and bangers and mash and neither where great. I definetly will not be going here to eat again! ... Read more...

Had lunch in The Church a few times and it was OK. I had the wrap once and when I asked the one filling be changed for an alternative the waiter said 'no', because all the wraps had been preprepared and could not be changed. I found this was strange and a little disappointing that the food was not made fresh - to order! The food however was quite tasty and the service was good. ... Read more...

A surprise

I was very surprised when I first visited the Church. A pub in a church? I simply could not believe. I find it a really cool place now, so much space, good atmosphere, a nice area outside. They have a dance club downstairs, which can get pretty busy, but always have been a good spot to spend the night in. And their toilets are great: spotless and very modern, which I believe was worth mentioning. ... Read more...
