Best scone ever!

I stopped in here to kill time before meeting friends late one afternoon to have a drink and something small to eat. I couldn't really find anything small on the menu that took my fancy so ordered a scone - and what arrived was the most delicious scone I've ever had! No idea if they make them on site but it really was wonderful. The staff were very friendly but the vibe was a bit strange in there - maybe the time of day. The building itself is pretty cool, with plenty of nooks to sit... Read more...

The Church should pray for a cook!!!

I have stopped here often for a drink, this time decided to have lunch with my partner…..BAD IDEA, my beefburger appeared to have been cooked the day before and re-heated with a hairdryer, a tennis ball would have been more edible, I mentioned this to our waiter after the meal (the chips and salad were okay), his comment was that all burgers were cooked “well done” I pointed out that my concern was not HOW it was cooked but WHEN it was cooked, he had no comment to make. i have mixed views on this place to be honest.I want good service when i go somewhere to spend my money. Is that too much to ask??no i don't think so.I havent been here too many times but i got the same service all the time so can't always be wrong.ok good points, the building itself is very impressive with alot of the church features still standing.they also have a downstairs area with a late bar and i had a good night in there. They have a large menu throughout the day, and the food was tasty... Maybe i am being a bit harsh with the 2 stars i gave The Church but i have mixed feelings about this place to be honest.First things first, when i am parting with my hard earned i expect good service and ok maybe i was in on an "Off Day" but i was far from delighted for choosing to go in here. Now the building itself i'll take my hat to.the original structure still remains in all its glory and they also have a level downstairs with a late bar which is all pleasing to the eye.I thought... A nightclub - Not.

(23 February 2010)

The Church is neither a food restaurant nor a nightclub as the food isnt that great and the "night" club isn't nothing but a niche. At least it's only a nice place to drop in with some of your friends for few drinks before hitting on to some real nightlife in Dublin. Visit this place if: - You're a tourist (As this place is full of history) - You like to pay too much for a pint of Guinness - You're enjoying a nice evening in the City with your friends. Do not: - Eat here... Read more...

The Church - Very expensive

very nice looking building. Restaurant upstairs on the balcony overlooking the bar below. Decor is very nice and a good mixture of modern and traditional. Tables are poorly laid out and space is very tight. Also the restaurant is very noisy as all the noise from the bar below travels upwards making it very hard to hold a dinner conversation. The starter of prawns was quite tasty but miniscule. 5 prawns in sauce spread out on a large plate with a bit of salad thrown in to fill it out a bit.... Read more...

Beautiful refurb

(14 February 2010)

As the name suggests, the Church is a renovated church and they did a beautiful job. The main part of the bar is the full height of the building with another level, the Gallery around the edges. There's a lot to the Church - upstairs is a swanky restaurant area, there's a club and private venue downstairs as well as the main bar and the terrace. The terrace is another good spot to hang out when the suns shining. In fact it's the only place I can think of with a decent beer garden on the... Read more...

Feel the history

I think when The Church opened in 2005 they tried to call it John Keatings however, everyone just kept calling it The Church and they eventually gave in. This refurbished listed building is one of my favourite Northside places, especially in the summer. I've eaten in the restaurant a few times and was a bit disappointed that the simplest thing like cooking a steak rare seems to be beyond them, 3 times I've eaten and requested this and 3 times I've been given a well done steak. Saying that the... Read more...

Al Fresco dining in the Summer!

I ate and drank here last summer. They had little marquis outside and a large BBQ serving great burgers etc. with your pint or coffee - a prompt and friendly service. Its a lovely setting with the beautiful church to look up at or look out on the adjoining square. When it got a little cooler in the evening we went inside for coctails and found a great variety of seating from comfy leather sofas to high tables and stools. A really different experience!... Myself and my mam went here for dinner one evening, we waited about 20minutes before somebody came over to serve us, when we did get served our dinner was out and all in 5 minutes which is a bit too quick. I had feta cheese salad which was not nice at all. We stayed tere for one more drink and I sat there with my coat on. It was freezing. A pity because its a nice place.... Read more...
