I've ended up in here a few times and while it wouldn't be one of my favourites, it's one of the better 'tourist' pubs in Temple Bar. Any time I've been here there's been live music of a decent standard, ranging from traditional to covers of rock and pop classics. There are plenty of nooks and crannies and you can usually find a seat. The last time I was here we tipped the bar staff and they served way past closing time. Whiskey with an E.

I have to say I enjoyed my visit here. The interior is a bit on the dark side but that is more to do with the salvaged woods that they have used give the impression of a traditional Irish pub. I am not a whiskey drinker but they carry a huge selection of different whiskeys and whiskys and these are displayed to good effect. As it is in a tourist location it would have been nice if the food served was more of the traditional fare to match the surroundings.... Read more...

Called to the Vat recently, like the layout and location, but hate the name it does the place an injustice, anybody that has anything to do with V.A.T. does not want to be reminded of vat when want to chill... Read more...

Avoid at all costs - worst bar in Dublin

I haven't been to all of the bars in Dublin, and possibly never will, but I can confidently say there's none worse than the Vathouse. Located as it is on the edge of Temple Bar, it's naturally a little bit more expensive than other bars around town, but I was still taken aback when, moments before the barman was about to take my order, I found out a pint of cider was going for 6.50. That would have been outrageous during the boom years, but this was last November. Quite stunning that places... Read more...
