Great bookstore - awkward to get to

(12 October 2011)

Report

by: Sarah B. 5 out of 5

This bookstore was fantastic for me when I was doing a literature course. I was doing a thesis about vampires and wanted to see about literature spanning a century. To get any books new, this would have sent me back a bundle, so not a chance. The basement in this shop houses a veritable treasure trove of second hand books at bargain basement prices. Here I got; Twilight, Dracula, Interview with a Vampire and Southern Vampire Mysteries for about 12 euro. This does not even boast about the... Read more...

Great Offers 3 for 2

Waterstones in Dawson Street is a lovely book shop. Great selection of books for everyone. Their 3 for 2 offer is great. Upstairs they have a coffee shop serving nice coffee where you can pick a book off the shelf and have a read, (but dont forget to put the book back) They have a childrens book section at the back which was well stocked and full of children enjoying the books on offer.... This is one of the bigger Waterstones and is facing that other book store Hoggis Figgus on Dawson St so you're spoiled for choice with books! There's a nice atmosphere in this store and its nicely laid out so you can find yourself a little nook or cranny to have a flick through some books before you buy. It has a decent selection of books that you might need for college. Waterstones also does a loyalty card scheme now too so you can get points on your purchases. Small but nice selection of... i think waterstones is probably my favourite bookshop in dublin.before it became waterstones it was laura ashleys and i love that shop too.so i guess the foundation was good before it even opened! anyway i have been a regular for years sometimes on my own sometimes with the kids even when they were young. there is little seating aresa for children to sit with a book of choice and oogle it. there are not many shops where small children can SIT and be QUIET!!!it suits all age groups huge range of... First time I went to Waterstones, I didn't want to leave. It was like a palace for books. It's quite fancy inside and upstairs there's a cafe. I've never eaten there but the soup smells heavenly. The books are categorised very well and its' very easy to find what you're looking for. Even if you can't find something the staff are eager to help you. I found a whole section of books on Native American culture a few years a go and there were even biographies on Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse.... Read more...

Popped in here a couple of weeks ago searching for a couple of books and the lady that served me was really helpful. Unfortunately they didn't have what I was looking for but she even made alternative suggestions which I thought was great when she searched Hodges and Figgis stock list and came up with nothing there. They always have a great 3 for 2 offer on therefore always stop in just before a holiday!... Read more...

Firstly the book shop is good. It has a nice selections, the comics aren't great Hughes & Hughes has a better selection, but if you want comics I figure you could go to a comic shop. I prefer the layout of Waterstones to Hughes and Hughes. It just feels like it lends itself to ambling around between sections better. The big draw for a lot of people however is the cafe. The food isn't great, but the cakes and scones are delicious . I'm reliably informed that the selection of herbal teas is... Read more...

I like Waterstones. It's definitely one of the nicer bookshops in Dublin. It's spacious, it's always clean, the staff are friendly, and it has something for everyone. The "something" that does it for me is the cafe. In my opinion, it's a nice place to be able to go alone and read without feeling like a Billy-no-friends. On the other hand, you can sit here and chat with friends for hours and never get kicked out! What I like most about this place is the large range of herbal teas- I... Read more...

Poor Loyalty Card Scheme

(18 February 2010)

Report

by: Nigel D. 3 out of 5

This is a well-stocked shop, with good departments in general and more academic disciplines. They do a lot of on -line marketing, but the points system on their loyalty card is poor and really adds up to very little . The cafe on the first floor serves good wholesome food at a reasonable price(but why did they take away the wine list ?!I like a the occasional glass of red wine with my lunch). The store has a nice atmosphere and staff are pleasant. The value is reasonable, although by no means... Read more...

Unfortunate location.

(07 February 2010)

Report

by: Cathal C. 3 out of 5

Under any normal set of circumstances, I would probably really like Waterstones. It is located across the road from what I consider to be the best bookshop in the country, though, so it inevitably suffers from the comparison. Still and all, I shall do my utmost to be as impartial as is humanly possible. Waterstones on Dawson St is very large, deceptively so, given that it looks quite petite from the outside. And they have a very good SF/Fantasy section, a nice broad selection of books. So... Read more...

Helpful staff - Great Kid's section

(22 December 2009)

Report

by: mari m. 4 out of 5

This large-ish Waterstones Book Shop has a friendly, helpful staff and a great selection of kid's books. There is also a large section of Irish interest books and all the usual sections you find in most book stores. Waterstones often has a 3 for 2 offer which is very handy. This particular Waterstones stands out for me as having a staff that is a little more customer oriented.... Read more...
