winding stair

The Winding Stairs is certainly different and old fashioned and very relaxing place to be. The selection of books are excellent and some interesting titles always worth stopping and having a look to see what's available and sit and relax in one of the many chairs around, it almost feels like you are in someone's home rather than a book shop. Lots of good quality secondhand books and a lot of them in good condition.... Read more...

Good selection of books for adults and children both new and secondhand and a great place to sit and have browse. It's always very relaxing and never any pressure from the staff. It's right beside the ha'penny bridge. It's very interesting and the old fashioned look about it adds to the charm of the place. If you are looking for a particular book the staff can check it out for you. The restaurant constantly gets great reviews for good quality food and has good views of the Liffey.... Read more...

Great bookshop

This is one of my favourite Dublin bookshops. It's laid out perfectly, lots of nooks and crannies and well thought-out sections. There are chairs scattered around for those moments when you pick up a book and can't put it down again - needing to investigate further on the spot. The staff are friendly and helpful and appear to enjoy their jobs, this place has a lot of regular customers which gives it an intimate feel. I really miss the cafe part of this bookshop - it was a great, cheap lunch... Read more...

Charming little place

I just love coming in here and browsing around the old bookshop. The upstairs part has turned into a top class restaurant - used to love it when it when it was a simple student haunt with great views over the Halpenny bridge. The bookshop hasn't changed much thank god - still the creaky wooden floorboards and an age old feel to the place. Good selection of books (not huge by any means) and a fairly good kids section too. Selll new and secondhand. Alittle gem in the middle of the city.... Read more...

They have a wide choise of books and is a book -worms paradise from what l could see. There was cosy chairs to sit on and have a read. Unfortunately as l was pressed for time l could not avail of the inviting chair !! Would love to have spent more time here.... Read more...

This place is really nice and old-fashioned. It has a great history to it and a really relaxed atmosphere. You're free to browse the books all day and take advantage of a big cosy arm chair. They have a great range of second hand books so you never know what you'll find! Plus the staff are really knowledgeable and know a lot about the books and the authors themselves. Haven't been in the restaurant upstairs but it's ALWAYS packed so definitely need a reservation.... Read more...

Black Books this ain't. Aside from the (arguably out of their hands) irksome smoking ban and the general societal norms prohibiting booksellers from quaffing wine, The Winding Stair suffers from its lack of Dylan Moran, Bill Bailey, and whoever it is that plays the woman. Instead, we are presented with Regan (hardly a real name), Emer (Emer? Eimear? Who gives a fuck?) and Daniel, the last of whom is famously the son of a poet, but aren't we all? Only last week, I was paying one of my... Read more...
