When I think of Farmers Markets, I think of cattle auctions, sheep-shearing competitions and the Lovely Girls Show - the reality is slightly different.

The Marlay Park is only open on Saturday afternoons, which partly explains why it always seems to be jammed full of people. The other half of the explanation is that it's just a brilliant market - lots of great-quality fruits, veggies and meats on sale for significantly less than you'd pay in Tesco or even Lidl down the road. Granted, there is a dimension of the middle class, Green voter about it - I'd still settle for regular, non-organic meat on price grounds - but it's a good place to try new things.

There is also a good selection of craft shops (located in the rooms of Marlay House) and plenty of places to eat out in the courtyard, including one of the best bratwursts I've ever had, cooked by a loudmouth American. It had big slices of fried pepper and onions - I was in heaven for those few minutes. Would go back.
