Wonderful Birthday Celebration-Food, Service and Price Exceptional
(24 October 2011)
by: Nigel
This is Michelin -standard without the actual Michelin star(s)!
Setting on the canal in Portobello is picturesque and relaxing, and decor in restaurant very appealing, soothing, relaxing, elegant and chic. All staff were friendly, proactive, smiling and extremely efficient-obviously well managed and a happy place to work.
Family party of 7 for lunch on Saturday to celebrate my wife's birthday,From start to finish , everything was impeccable, silver-service and yet had a relaxed informal feel.Started with a champagne reception and all opted for the 2 course set lunch-good choices-€19 per head-exceptional value with wonderful selection-I had a veal pasta starter and others had the home cured salmon or soup----very very high standard, as were all the main courses that followed:- Venison cepe & chestnut pie, lamb shoulder and cod.We ordered a selection of side dishes (€3.50) each.
Couldn't resist the desserts -I had creme brulee -yum- as did others and ordered aelection of cheeses for the table. All washed down with bottles of water and excellent muscadet (€30 per bottle) and Australian Shiraz- €39 per bottle-from an extensive list. Both wines were exceptionally good.Restaurant marked my wife's birthday when her dessert was served.Finished with espressos and other coffee varieyies.
We 'went to town' at this restaurant, not stinting on the wine or anything else . With service charge, it worked out at €70 per head---------worth every single penny for an exceptional treat!
Can't wait to go back.
