Solid ground underfoot. That is what we do at Thaxted Patios, and we have been doing it long enough to know that the prep work matters more than most customers ever realise.

We lay patios across Thaxted and the surrounding parts of Essex. The materials we work with range from porcelain tiles and Indian sandstone through to concrete flagstones and natural stone sourced from further afield. Liscannor flagstone is one we come back to regularly, it has a character that manufactured materials rarely match.

How we work

Every job starts with a proper look at the ground conditions. Sub-base compaction, falls for surface water drainage, the depth of the bedding course. These decisions get made before a single slab goes down, not after a problem shows up.

Essex ground can be awkward. Clay-heavy soil in this part of the county moves with the seasons, so we account for that in how we build the base. Cutting corners at that stage costs customers money down the line.

We keep communication straightforward. You will know what we are doing and why. If something unexpected comes up mid-job, you hear about it immediately, not at the end.

The finished result should look right and stay right. We are not interested in a patio that looks fine on the day and shifts by spring.
